New cooperation agreement between the Swedish NAO and national Supreme Audit Institutions in Southeast Asia
The Swedish National Audit Office has signed a new cooperation agreement with the regional organization ASEANSAI, which consist of national Supreme Audit Institutions in ten countries in Southeast Asia. The new cooperation agreement runs until 2022 and the objective is to strengthen public sector audit capacity in the region.
ASEANSAI is a regional organization which consists of the Supreme Audit Institutions of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Swedish NAO and ASEANSAI signed a first cooperation agreement in 2017 and have now decided to extend the cooperation to the end of 2022.
– The cooperation with ASEANSAI has generated several positive results. By strengthening the regional capacity, we hope to be able to further improve conditions for sound use of resources and effective administration, says Auditor General Helena Lindberg.
The Swedish NAO’s cooperation with ASEANSAI is based on the needs of the members and focused on providing professional expertise and support for, among other things, building a pool of regional experts and developing training materials.
– Through the partnership with ASEANSAI, we can strengthen the capacity of individual Supreme Audit Institutions and also create conditions for spreading the expertise, says Catharina Cappelin, Head of the Swedish NAO’s international department.
The international operations of the Swedish National Audit Office
The international operations of the Swedish NAO are multifaceted. We represent Sweden internationally and have been assigned by Parliament to support the development of supreme audit institutions as part of the Swedish international development cooperation.
Currently, the Swedish NAO have a bilateral cooperation with audit institutions in Africa (Kenya, Liberia, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe), South-East Europe (Kosovo and Moldova) and in Asia (Afghanistan, Cambodia and Palestine). In addition, we support three regional efforts targeting 37 audit institutions in Western Balkans, Africa and South-East Asia.
