Tanzania is awarded the Prize for the best Performance Audit report
The National Audit Office of Tanzania has today been awarded the prize for the best performance audit report in the AFROSAI-E region, the African Organization of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions.
The aim of the Prize is to benchmark good practices in performance audit and to highlight efforts made by performance auditors around the region.
The winning report “Management of Water Projects in Rural Areas” deals with a sector that is closely connected to public health, and therefore has a clear citizen perspective.
The international independent Review Team was unanimous in its decision on the winning report, and states that the audit report is well-motivated, of good quality and well designed. It covers the whole chain of responsibility, from the ministry to the local level of administration. The report presents conclusions and recommendations that are clearly analytical, add value and are based on an overarching integration of the findings.
“I am very happy to receive this prize on behalf of my office, and I am very proud of the team that has conducted the winning performance audit report. I would also like to thank the Swedish NAO for its longstanding support, that has contributed to developing the audit capacity in NAO Tanzania,” says Mr. Charles Edward Kichere, Controller and Auditor General of the National Audit Office of Tanzania
Ten reports were nominated to this year’s competition, from the supreme audit institutions in Ethiopia, Ghana, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, and Tanzania.
“It is encouraging to see the spread of topics and geographic coverage in the nominated reports, as it demonstrates that qualified performance audit work is conducted throughout the region,” says Auditor General of Sweden, Helena Lindberg.
The audit team behind the winning report, Mr. Victor Mapigano, Mr. Andalason Hamba and Ms. Esnath Henry Nicodem, will eventually be invited to a study visit at the Swedish National Audit Office in Stockholm, with the purpose of exchanging knowledge and experiences with Swedish colleagues.
AFROSAI-E initiated in 2008, with the support of the Swedish National Audit Office, an annual award for the best performance audit report in the AFROSAI-E region, “The Prize”. The purpose of The Prize is to encourage development of performance audit in English-speaking Africa, and to highlight the work of performance auditors in the region. The Prize has contributed to exchange of knowledge and experiences, as well as encouraged comparisons and sharing of good practice in performance audit.
