Mining waste – financial risks for the State (RiR 2015:20)
Mining waste accounts for a very large part of waste in Sweden and the volumes are increasing. Incorrect handling may lead to long-term environmental problems. The mining companies are to pledge financial guarantees so that mining waste can be post-treated even if the companies fail. But deficiencies in the current system mean that there is a risk that the State will have to bear major costs for post-treatment of mining waste.
